Group 7 Day 5

Today was a big day as it was the last full day of the skiing course in Haute-Nendaz so we were going to make the most of it. We spent the day in Tracouet and were determined to get off the blue slopes so we asked our instructor Thomas if we could and he took us on a blue slope which turned into a steep red slope. There was not many injuries but a very brave Miss Bizzell took a fall on the slope and even though she was scared of the rest of the slope she still courageously went down the rest and carried on skiing through the day. We did that slope a couple of times and then Thomas took us on a full red slope which made us feel very nervous but still very excited. We went down it and felt very proud of ourselves as it was very hard. We are very grateful to the teachers for all of their advice and support!

Group 5, Day 5

Group 5 went to Thyon today. We took the bus to Siviez and got on a button lift that was so long and high up that people's hair froze! We warmed up nicely though with a longer gentle ski and took in some lovely scenery a long the way. Lots of reds later, the group were tired and had lunch in Thyon. The afternoon brought new challenges- black slopes and a couple of falls. What a fab day all round!!

Boarders, day 4

Monsieur Bump nominations for day 5

The nominations for day 5 were:
Sean - for intimidating a big Swiss guy, who tried to push-in, with his 'look' in the lunch queue.
Mr Taylor - for speaking in a derogatory manner about little 5 year old ski-school pupils after he'd been stuck behind them coming down the slopes. He is now known as Mr Potty mouth.
Matthew Reynolds - for falling off the button lifft in front of a huge crowd who had been queing for an hour for the lift to work. He arrived at the top of the lift to a cheering crowd.
Instructor Reno - for falling on the flattest part of the nursery slope and slipping down a ditch.
Dual nomination, Niamh Galton and Phoebe Evans - for trying to get on the T bar and failing miserably, causing Frau Green and another pupil to also fall off.
Sam John - for falling face first off the chair lift.
Instructor Rhodri - for leading the pupils down a woodland off piste, knocking a small child over on his way and causing a pupil pile-up.

And after a tense clapathon the winner was...

Matthew Reynolds!

Last night festivities

Following the awards ceremony students enjoyed competing in their ski groups in a number of party games! The students competed for the chance to have a thrash at the piƱata football!

The games included balloon racing (pushing a balloon along the floor with your nose!), malteser sucking (transporting maltesers from a tin to a bowl with a straw only), limbo and finally passing the orange (under the chin only!)

Last night awards ceremony

The ski instructors came to our hotel especially to present awards to members of their ski groups tonight. Individual students were given awards for showing a positive attitude all week along with demonstrating great progress in their skiing technique.

Group 7 award joint winners were Ioan Lewis and Sam Corkill for being ambitious from the beginning of the week, developing from absolute beginners to proficient skiers.

In group 6 Ella Jones was presented the award for skiing progress and for showing good humour at all times.

In group 5 Ryan Williams was presented with the ski award as he has made excellent progress during the week and skied confidently down the black slope on the fourth day.

Daniel Richards was presented with the group 4 award! The whole group made great progress from snow plough to parallel turns but Dan stood out for his excellent style.

Fiona Vickers was given the group 3 award. The instructor commented that it was a group of mad guys with guts and who wanted to have a lot of fun but one pupil stood out for her determination and technical ability, Ffion.

For group 2 the skier of the week award was given to Jason Edgeworth for most improved technique and speed as well as being a gentleman and never leaving a pupil behind.

In group 1 Harry Hopkins was named skier of the week for both technical prowess and speed!

The snowboarder of the week was awarded to Josh Petersen for his progress during the week and for picking out great lines through the powder today.

The Richard Llewelyn Award
In the many years of Cowbridge ski trips it has become a tradition to present a very prestigious award to the  best overall skier. The Richard Llewelyn Trophy is awarded on the year 9 and 10 ski course in memory of a former pupil. The student winning the award is presented with a trophy with all the names of previous winners on it. In a break with tradition this year the award has been presented to the snowboarder Ben Terry as he impressed the instructors and teachers so much with his snowboarding expertise.

Each ski group also gave their ski instructor gifts to say thank you to them for teaching them so well during the week. Here is Pierre who instructed group 4 wearing his very fetching hat given to him by members of group 4.

Group 4 Day 5

Group 4 had an incredible day.  We caught the bus to Siviez and then skied over to Thyon on lots of red runs which we skied really well.  We had fun attempting to use the t-bar lift where Niamh and Phoebe managed to cause chaos by sitting on top of each other!  Some of the girls have nicknamed our instructor pear instead of his real name Pierre! After lunch we skied all the way back to Siviez and despite a huge queue at one of the lifts we finished the day by skiing a hard red run back into Siviez. Well done group 4. Frau Green is proud of you!
